Games and Online Learning
The New York State Labor Department is heavily invested in assuring that citizens acquire adequate raining (through formal education and training, as well as through other life experiences) so that they can find a career that they find rewarding and good jobs: jobs with adequate compensation to support their families and which have the potential for growth. Annually, we fund training projects across the State which provide alternative skill development opportunities for youths and adults. Online learning is fast becoming an important, cost-effective means to deliver high-quality education to a larger audience. Online games are an important element of online education. To use gaming as an instructional technology, however, requires some broad understanding of the role of games in education. This course is designed as an introduction to games in education. It is provided to stimulate wider evaluation and adoption of what educators are finding an important tool in both formal education and general workforce development.
